Which way do I go?

by Rev. Michael Johnson

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.

At some point in all our lives, we are faced with the ultimate decision. The pathway that we are going to set the entire trajectory of our life upon. Sort of like our internal standard operating procedure, our go-to, or our center. Some people have called it the moral compass.

The pathway of wisdom leads to life, not death. Trusting in the Lord Christ Jesus is the beginning on the pathway of wisdom.

King Solomon noted as being one of the wisest and the richest men of his day so much so that the Queen of Sheba traveled to King Solomon’s home to see for herself if Solomon was wise and if all that she had heard about him and his wealth was true. Basically, King Solomon’s wealth was greater many times over than Bill Gates or a Jeff Bezos. King Solomon said in his writings Proverbs 9:10 The attentiveness of and the respect for the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Isaiah the Prophet said Isaiah 28:16 So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic or put to shame.

Hundreds of years later Paul the Apostle further expounds on who that cornerstone is. He goes explains what/who the sure foundation/pathway is that we can stand, walk and journey through this life on. Paul, echoed Isaiah, teaching us how to begin the pathway of wisdom and life saying in:

Romans 10:9-11 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

One day Thomas, one of Christ’s disciples wanted to make sure he knew the way, the pathway of wisdom, the pathway that ended with life and not death and that he was on it. He asked Jesus Christ the question and Jesus answered directly and said in

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the lifeNo one comes to the Father except through me.

So as you contemplate your pathway. Choose the sure and strong foundation for your journey through this life. The pathway of wisdom that leads to life and not death.
