The Bible makes it clear — leadership in the Kingdom is not about power, perks, or personal gain. It’s about service. Jesus Himself said:
“The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” — Matthew 23:11-12
When spiritual leaders trade integrity for influence, or service for self-interest, they may gain temporary advantage but lose something far more valuable: the trust of the people and the smile of God.
Sadly, we live in a time where many are disillusioned by what they see. Young people, in particular, are watching. They can smell hypocrisy a mile away. And when leaders use movements or causes to negotiate personal benefits rather than lifting up those they’re called to serve, it confirms their worst fears about the church.
But here’s the truth:
The actions of some do not define the Body of Christ. The Word of God calls every shepherd to a higher standard:
“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which He obtained with His own blood.” — Acts 20:28
That means:
- No backroom deals that shut out the very people we say we’re fighting for.
- No empty speeches without action that lifts others.
- No “cause” that becomes a cover for personal gain.
Instead, our calling is to empower — especially the next generation. We believe in putting resources into the hands of young men and women so they can grow, lead, and thrive. We believe in mentoring them spiritually, socially, and economically.
Jesus did not build His church on political maneuvering. He built it on truth, love, and sacrifice. And He left us a model that works in every age:
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45
If we, as leaders, forget that, then we’ve forgotten the Gospel itself.
And if you’ve been hurt, disappointed, or let down by leadership, I want to remind you: Jesus has never used you for selfish gain. His leadership is pure. His heart is for you. His example is the one we follow at Pneuma Christian Bible Church — imperfectly, but with sincerity and accountability to His Word.
Whether you walk through our doors or another Bible-believing church, don’t give up on the Body of Christ. The failures of people do not erase the faithfulness of Jesus. There is still a place for you to grow, to heal, and to see leadership done God’s way.
